CATE: Pimp My Plantpot Chilli’s Progress
Some of you may know that Siân and I are currently growing a lot of vegetables and fruit. Well when I say ‘a lot’, it should say, ‘as much as we can fit in our flat’. Siân has always had a hobbit like facination with gardening that I must admit I did not share until recently. However since I have been growing a Cactus my interest in horticulture has begun to perk up.
The 2007 crop includes the Chilli’s that are my responsibility, Potato’s, Tomato’s and Onions. This pretty much is our horde for this year, but if successful we will hopefully be able to grow more next year with the addition of an allotment that we’re hoping to gain this summer. Once we have a fully cultivated allotment space, we hope to grow more vegetables and fruit for 2008 onwards, reducing our need to buy vegetables from the supermarket.
But to return to the here and now, the photo attached is the first sign of my Chilli’s poking through after they were sown last week. It is much to my relief that they are now budding as this is all very new to me and I’m used to having to do stuff to make things work. For the last week I have been constantly checking the seed bed looking for any sign of life, but until today I started to fear the worst. Luckily these little babies, about a third of the crop, are first off the starting block.
They will be left to grow to about 10cm in height before they will be removed from the seed bed and planted in proper pots so that I can Pimp My Plantpot to support Nicola’s (a CATE member) movement. As my Chilli’s grow I will be keeping a picture diary to show their progress over time.
