E STINGS 4, fourth annual E Stings competition

E4 logoOver a year ago I wrote about the success of Will and Steve with their E4 sting (you can see it here). The sting Will and Steve created made it to the final shortlist and has been shown on E4 countless times between programming, usually late at night.

For the uninitiated, a sting is a short piece of video that sits between scheduled programming and advertising breaks to help puntuate the programme. The aim of a sting is to promote the brand/channel quickly, whilst informing the viewer that the main programming has ended for a break, or is returning from a break.

Most commercial channels have very dull stings, you only have to look at ABC1 or ITV1 to see how dull. E4 has always gone in another direction, letting their viewers create the stings for them in an annual E-Sting competition. The winner of the competition is commissioned to create several more stings, but the finalists stings are also shown on E4.

This year E4 and Creative Review are launching E STINGS 4, the fourth annual E-stings competition, except this time there is a difference. E4 and Creative review are not just after E4 Stings, they also want E4 Music Stings for the hugely popular E4 MUSIC channel which runs in the mornings on E4 when Big Brother or other reality TV shows are not running.

So what’s the catch? Well none really, all you have to do is have is an idea that involves the E4 logo or the E4 Music logo, put it on tape (MiniDV, DV CAM, Beta SP or DigiBeta; no VHS or digital files) and send it to E4 (address on their web site). The only small point to note is that the deadline for this competition is Thursday 15th March, 2007. So if you haven’t started already, you better get a move on!

You can get more information, E4 logos and mp3’s to use from : http://www.channel4.com/entertainment/tv/microsites/E/estings/how.html

Finally, I feel I should own up and tell you all that I have been contacted by Channel 4 informing me about this competition. However, I am a massive advocate of this competition and believe it is one of the best examples of a channel interacting with their audience, albeit the creative ones. So I don’t mind promoting it for them.
