After many months of designing, scraping, then redesigning various themes for this blog, I have settled on what I call ‘Black Tie’. This silk wonder is still having the last creases wrinkled out of it, so please excuse the clutter if you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer.
We are working to make this theme one-hundred percent compatible with every browser and Microsoft Internet Explorer is last on the list. Outside of bug fixing for Internet Explorer, I will also be playing with the colour scheme to try and optimise the tricky white on black (or lighter-grey on darker-grey) to make reading as comfortable as possible.

As PDnH Server is now officially a project, it seemed appropriate to discuss how one would get involved. Currently PDnH Server has a sole developer, the author of this post. However, I sincerely hope this grows over the coming months and years, blossoming into a fully active community of developers and users.
But before my imagination runs away with me, I had better get down to the serious business of explaining how PDnH Server is developed. Please note this is a guide to how we internally develop applications at Polaris Digital, you may have an approach to development that is completely different and if it works for you then great. But because we use a particular set of tools, if you need help it would help us if you were in the same environment.

The centre of all PDnH Server development is now available from http://pdnh.polaris-digital.com. This new web site will be the place to get up-to-date releases, nightly builds, announcements and support. As PDnH Server progresses the site will grow to include more detailed information about the Content Management Framework.
Currently and some might say ironically, this site does not use PDnH Server to power it, but this will not be the case for long. In the coming weeks I will be adding a project mailing list and subscription forms so interested parties can keep up with developments. If you must get in touch, PDnH Server has a forum which covers all the current development and user topics.

From today the source code of PDnH Server is available on Google Code. All of the source and stable builds will now belong to the Google Code trunk.
You can view the project at : http://code.google.com/p/pdnh/
If you have access to subversion, you can get the latest source at : http://pdnh.googlecode.com/svn/
The version available on Google Code is the new 0.3.0 source, which although started is far from functional. Please only download the source if you wish to contribute, out of curiosity or you have no expectations that this will work on any level at the moment.

Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Inc, has posted an open letter about the current DRM situation outlining his personal view (and therefore probably Apple’s as well) for music fans, (European) governments and record labels to ponder.
Due to the success of Apple’s iTunes + iPod music solution, the music industry has been looking for ways to unlock, replicate and exploit the system Apple spearheaded. Microsoft have launched their Zune player to little praise, Wal-Mart has started selling music and movies online, certain labels have boycotted Apple until they received a fair cut of the profits and European Governments have been lining up to have a go at Apple about their DRM.

It is the time of year when Domain Names get renewed and in my case, new ones are purchased. As a large order of new domain names has been purchased for clients, I thought I would buy a few more for Polaris Digital. As such, you can now visit our main web site using;
So why bother telling you lot? Well simply to let the Google, Exalead, Yahoo!, MSN and all the other bots pick up on the additional TLDs.

On January 18th of this year, I set out on this blog the road map for PDnH Server for the next two years, taking us from the current 0.2.0 state to 1.0.0 scheduled for release in the summer 2008.
It seems the mere existance of this road map has helped the development no end as much of the system framework has been completed in a matter of days. I must admit that I’m not doing all the hard work, basing a large portions of the system on Tyler Hall’s Simple PHP Framework. The Simple PHP Framework is lightweight, self-contained and met most of the requirements for PDnH Server, although I have done quite a bit of hacking in places to streamline the code and remove un-needed elements.

It feels like it was yesterday I was writing about the beginning of 2007 and the fortunes (or failures) ahead. Suddenly it is February and we only have eleven months left of this year.
Still, January didn’t hang around and quickly got set into making life more interesting. Manchester has certainly been in the news this month as the BBC confirm they are moving to Salford (across the river from Manchester). The new MediaCity in Salford will create thousands of jobs and a new creative pool, at least that is what Salford City Council hope.
