Polaris Digital is moving
Just a note to say that polaris-digital.com is going to be moving to brand new dedicated servers over the next week. Although TowerHost/HostGator have served us very well, it is time to run our own servers now as our needs increase. This blog, the main Polaris Digital web site and all other areas hosted at polaris-digital.com may go up and down sparadically over the next few weeks, but we hope to have got everything settled down by mid-June.
For those that are interested, our new dedicated server is a brand new Dell PowerEdge 1855 Blade server. I know using Dell is a holy crime in the Apple community, but Xserves weren’t available.
Specifications :
- Dual Intel Xeon 2.8GHz processors
- 4GB RAM
- 300GB hard-disk space
- Fedora Core 5 Linux
- Apache web server with the usual trimmings - PHP, MySQL, TomCat
- QuickTime Streaming Server (Darwin edition)
- Red5 Flash Server
This server is has a 50,000Mbit connection to the web via two datacentres in the UK, one here in Manchester and the other in London. We now have an industry standard Cisco Firewall protecting us, not that Linux is going to get any worms anytime soon.
All of our customer sites will be hosted from this server in future with our current clients web sites being migrated over the next three months.
