Continuing my updates regarding the development of PDnH Server, the new search module is currently being tested. This search module represents my first small steps into AJAX development. For those that are wondering why I’m working with a Dutch football team, AJAX is Asynchronous Javascript And XML.
For the last 15 years or so of the world wide web’s mass usage, applications and services online have required input from a user, click and then wait for the page to reload, during which time the application has every chance of failing or in the early days your connection would drop out. Basically the web was not delivering a good user experience and now steps are being taken to make the web behave as we expect our other applications to behave. These steps have been coined as Web 2.0 technologies and AJAX is one of the core components of this movement. Another is Adobe Flex, but more on that soon.
So how does this make my search better than it was before. Well simply because as you start entering text the search form begins searching before you even finish typing, returning the results right infront of you without you ever having to press a submit button.
