More Apple news in brief
There have been some major rumours circulating around the Apple rumour sites for those that haven’t got their fingers firmly on the pulse. Here is a brief overview of what’s being talked about.
- Apple have sold more than one billion tunes worldwide, that’s an American Billion (1,000,000,000), through their iTunes Music Store. This of course means that Apple and the music companies are raking in an absolute fortune and justifies Steve Jobs’ argument supporting the pricing of music sold through the iTMS not to increase anytime soon. Word has it that it was a Coldplay track that one billionth through the electronic tills.
- Apple have invited key members of the press to a special media event taking place at the Apple Town Hall at their Head Quarters in Cupertino next Tuesday, February 28, at 10:00 PST (18:00 GMT). There is wild speculation or what products/services Apple are going to release currently doing the rounds, with a new Video iPod and new Intel Powered products topping the charts; only time will tell.
- Think Secret are reporting that a new “Hi-Fi” iPod boom box will be one of the products announced next Tuesday. This will be the first significant accessory for the iPod that Apple have designed internally.
- An image claiming to be of the next video iPod was posted online earlier in the week. The image shows an iPod like device sitting on a white surface with what looks like a broadcast test signal displayed. This device is very similar looking to earlier renderings created by enthusiastic fans, who at the time admitted that their renderings where pure speculation. Because of that fact, it is hard to assume that this image is real, but as usual, time will tell. You can see the image here.
- There are reports that Tuesday will also see the announcement that Apple will start selling full feature films through the iTunes Store. This has been long talked about and would be an obvious move for Apple, helping them solidify their position as the market leader in the field of online digital content provider. I wouldn’t be surprised if this rumour was true.
Obviously we’ll all be waiting, but a lot of what didn’t show up at last months Macworld Expo could make an appearence here. Watch this space.
